Trivia Questions For: Keith Ferrazzi, Professional Relationship Thought Leader & Brand Marketing Expert
As part of our new “Trivia Questions For…” interview series, I am thrilled to have caught up with Keith Ferrazzi, acclaimed thought leader and expert in professional relationship development. Called to be one of the world’s most “connected” individuals by Forbes and Inc., Keith’s New York Times bestselling books Never Eat Alone and Who’s Got Your Back are considered to be the gold standards in mastering interpersonal relationships to build and maintain professional networks. As CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight, a sales and marketing consulting firm, Keith is a highly sought-after keynote speaker and executive coach.
Today, I’m asking him about employee reward & recognition, workplace morale & brand engagement.
These days, companies have fewer options to offer employees in terms of advancement and/or compensation; in this economic reality, what is the most effective way managers can reward, recognize & motivate hard-working staff?
When tangible advancement and compensation are not options, it is especially important to make sure people are given regular feedback to let them know how much their efforts are appreciated. Investment in training and personal development, finding opportunities for people to participate in new projects, or attend events that will contribute to reaching goals. People don’t work for companies, they work for people – so making sure that they know they are valued as people in non-monetary ways can go a long way.
As an experienced CEO who regularly coaches fellow executives at the world’s most prestigious companies, do you feel that senior decision makers give enough consideration to the role of employee morale in the workplace? What are companies not doing enough of to make their employees happier & more productive, as well as foster loyalty/retain top talent?
No way – most companies don’t spend enough time and money on morale and when they do, they bungle it…What should they be doing? Making room for candid feedback, conversations about goals and the relationships and experiences necessary to reach those goals, acknowledgement of what people are doing and its value to the company beyond the annual review process, celebrating successes in a big enough way that people feel appreciated.
In your opinion, what are the most effective ways for brands to engage with both new and loyal audiences utilizing “offline” awareness events?
The real magic of events isn’t having a great speaker, but finding great ways to get the community itself to connect – create events that give people permission to let their guard down and engage with one another as well as the brand.
Now, Keith has a trivia question to ask YOU:
Let’s do it “Jeopardy” style: An IBM study of its consultants found that for every one of “these,” the consultant earned an extra $948 of revenue?
To find out the answer, ask Keith by emailing him through his Website, www.keithferrazzi.com, or by connecting with him on Twitter @Ferrazzi.
