Event Recap: The Economist Pub Quiz Trivia Night at Brooklyn Winery
This past Monday, the TrivWorks team had the honor of working once again with The Economist, one of the world’s most prestigious news publications, to produce a unique trivia brand engagement event for their readers.
With the beautiful Brooklyn Winery as our host, we welcomed a huge crowd of both loyal Economist enthusiasts and potential new readers to partake in an exceptionally unique pub quiz. Featuring highly customized, highbrow trivia questions for the expected audience of news lovers covering business, current events, politics, culture, economics, technology and The Economist itself, the event was unbelievably fun, incredibly competitive and exceptionally energetic!
Upon arrival, attendees were presented with a bright red Economist T-shirt and matching pen, to be used during the event. After getting settled, I had the honor of welcoming everyone to the first-ever Economist pub quiz trivia night in Brooklyn – which received quite a rousing response indeed!
After kicking things off with rounds covering general knowledge of world affairs and pop culture questions from “Economist-esque” movies & TV shows, we were thrilled to welcome longtime staff writer Lane Greene to ask his “Top 10 Favorite Economist Trivia Questions,” as well as share some songs from his iPod for folks to identify. A picture round was distributed to all teams, with points awarded not only for identifying the 10 celebrities whose images appeared, but for correctly figuring out what they all had in common. Mr. Greene then wrapped things up by asking a round of “difficult” Economist questions, which were worth double points.
Throughout the night, members of The Economist staff ran a series of prize raffles, giving away such goodies ranging from official Economist calendars, water bottles and notepads to free tickets to attend their upcoming World in 2012 Festival. Players were encouraged to tweet using our official #EconPubQuiz hashtag, and in so doing kept a great back-channel dialogue running throughout the entire event and beyond. The winning team, though, walked away with $50 Economist gift cards, which can be used anywhere, and for anything (a magazine subscription, perhaps?) as well as bragging rights for having conquered what could easily have been the most intellectually stimulating pub quiz in Brooklyn history.
On behalf of TrivWorks, I would like to thank the wonderful and creative brand team at The Economist for conceiving this incredibly unique experiential marketing event, and for working so hard to make it into a reality. Additionally, we would like to thank Brooklyn Winery, Lane Greene, and the 100 attendees whose energy and enthusiasm made the event such a blast!
We are also so appreciative of the tremendous support The Economist received from fellow media outlets in promoting this event, including great listings in Time Out New York, New York Daily News, CBS New York, AM New York, The Brooklyn Paper, Brooklyn Based, Shecky’s, MediaBistro.com and HelloBrooklyn.com, among others.
