“Why We Love NYC” Venue Spotlight: The Bell House
We’re three weeks away from TrivWorks January 25th “Why We Love NYC” event, a special trivia night hosted by Pat Kiernan. As the date draws nearer, I want to take the time to highlight all of the terrific partners who have come together to make this very unique event possible!
We must of course begin with our host for the event, The Bell House. Located in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, this converted printing factory has quickly become one of the hottest new spots for arts, performance and culture in the Borough of Kings since opening in the fall of 2008. Sporting 8,000 square feet of hand-crafted bar and performance space, 25-foot high vault ceiling, full chandeliers and a signature water buffalo overlooking the crowd, the sprawling sister venue of nearby Union Hall in Park Slope and Floyd in Brooklyn Heights just screams character.
The venue is divided into two spaces. The Frontier Room, the smaller front room bar area, features a 26-foot bar and an array of comfortable couches, hightop tables and a small performance stage. Open to the public 7 nights a week, it’s an incredibly chill oasis in an otherwise barren industrial area, perfect for a weeknight beer or catching an intimate performance.
The Main Room, though, is really what defines The Bell House as one of Brooklyn’s premier performance venues. Centered around a massive 450 square foot stage and a gorgeous 30-foot bar running along the far wall, the main performance space can easily accommodate crowds of up to 350. Any night of the week, you can find some kind of incredible performance in the Main Room, including nationally touring bands, comedy, film screenings and fund raisers, as well as quirky events such as their extremely popular “State Fair” series, where they highlight individual states for NYC transplants to come enjoy an afternoon of home state food, flair and entertainment.
With professional sound and lighting, terrific beer selection and a simply dynamite staff, The Bell House has established itself as the quintessential large-scale Brooklyn venue, and the perfect home for a night of pop culture trivia celebrating all things New York City.
