80s Trivia Night at The Bell House – A Long Time Coming

Let me begin by saying that I’ve wanted to do an 80-themed trivia night for a long time. A really, really long time – in fact, ever since I started hosting trivia events professionally, I’ve wanted to do this!

But alas, it’s not as easy as it looks.

I love the 80s – I’m an 80s kid, after all, and perhaps you are as well. Being of a certain age, we tend to think that EVERYBODY loved the 80s – or at least had great 80s memories. After hosting my first few pub quiz nights as a newbie quizmaster on the Upper East Side in 2006, however, I learned really quick that it’s not the case. Not even close.

As it turns out, we 80s lovers… are old.

Pains me to say it, but it’s true. The fact is that many young folks today in their 20s & 30s don’t remember a single thing about the 80s – that is, if they were even born in time to remember anything. I’ve produced 500 trivia events for corporate and public audiences, with 50-100 questions at each – and yet I’ve used 80s questions sparingly. People just don’t know their 80s like I do! And while that’s too bad for me, I’ve learned to swallow my pride and embrace more recent decades of pop culture which today’s trivia audiences enjoy – but still, I miss my decade.

And perhaps you do as well. I’ve (shockingly) never been asked to produce an 80-themed event for a private client, and there are hardly any 80s-themed pub quiz nights out there, because bars are catering to a younger crowd. Were I to try a stand-alone 80s night, the turnout would most likely be light – unless, of course, there was a larger event we could piggyback off of…

Which is exactly what we’re doing! Once we finalized our plans for Pat Kiernan’s “90s vs 00s” Pop Culture Trivia Challenge at The Bell House on March 20th, I knew that the perfect opportunity to do an 80s trivia night had finally come! Designed as a “trivia teaser,” it’s a natural fit for a fun, free night to get people excited about Pat’s big event in advance – after all, anybody who would attend an 80s trivia night would certainly be into 90s/00s as well, right?

And so, I am incredibly excited! One week from tonight, on Wednesday, March 13th, join me at The Bell House as I combine two of my favorite things in the world: hosting trivia events, and the 80s. We’ve partnered with The Awesome 80s Prom for some great prizes, and who knows what other prizes we’ll have in store. But it’s going to be a blast – I can’t wait!

See you there…
