Nominate an Educator for New York Daily News’ Hometown Heroes in Education Awards
There’s a powerful piece in the Daily News today by TrivWorks friend and “Special Host” Pat Kiernan about what makes a successful teacher. Writing in his capacity as a judge for New York Daily News’ Hometown Heroes in Education awards, Pat draws upon personal anecdotes as a student, a son and a parent to explain what it is that separates a truly excellent educator from one who is just going through the motions – and the impact that teacher has.
I think one of the reasons Pat and I work so well together is that we share a similar set of values. Both highly professional in our respective workplaces, we are first and foremost family men who place our wives and kids above all else. We are also passionate about education, which is why our first event together – two years ago this week, actually – was a trivia fund raiser to benefit VH1 Save the Music Foundation, supporting music education in public schools.
Like Pat, I feel that truly great educators need to be recognized for their efforts, and am proud to support this wonderful cause! Do you know any exceptional men or women in education whom you would like to nominate for the Hometown Heroes in Education awards?
FYI our next public event with Pat has been announced: “Pat Kiernan’s Summer Slam” on Wednesday, July 24th at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Click here to learn more!
