10 Office-Friendly Irish Trivia Questions for St. Patrick’s Day 2012
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this weekend, and if you live here in New York City like me, there’s no escaping it – especially if you work as a pub quiz host!
I’ll admit, I’ve never been a fan of St. Paddy’s Day; not only am I not a huge drinker, but for six straight years I either lived, worked or both on Manhattan’s Upper East Side – which on that day, for those not familiar, is famously overrun with drunk tourists, since it’s the endpoint of the world’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade (see how I just couldn’t resist sneaking that bit of trivia in there? Kind of an occupational hazard in my line of work).
Actually, you know what? Seeing how I’m all about corporate entertainment in NYC, let’s turn my tepid attitude towards ol’ Saint Pat around right now with some fun, clean, workplace-friendly Irish trivia questions for you to email around the office today. Get all 10 right, and next time we hang out I’ll buy you a Guinness – a beer first introduced in 1759 (there it is again…!)
Try your hand at these, lads & lassies:
1. Who is the most recent U.S. president to claim any kind of Irish Heritage?
2. Which Irish band gave the world the 1-hit wonder “Breathless” in 2000?
3. In which movie-turned-Broadway-play will you find the song “Falling Slowly” by The Swell Season? (My wedding song – love it!)
4. How many provinces is Ireland divided into? (BONUS: Can you name them?)

UPDATE (March 16th): Upon reading this post yesterday, I was asked to contribute to an article in a Manhattan news website called DNAinfo about New Yorkers who aren’t into the whole St. Patrick’s Day party scene, yet still want to mark the occasion somehow. Fun article – enjoy!
