Everything You Need to Know About Pat Kiernan’s Pop Culture Trivia Night at Highline Ballroom

pat.kiernanTonight, we are thrilled to be producing our much-anticipated Manhattan trivia night debut with Pat Kiernan, TrivWorks’ “Special Host,” at the elegant Highline Ballroom in Chelsea! We are expecting to see many new faces this evening, so if you have not been to one of our public events before, here are some answers to the questions you may be asking yourself:

What time do things kick off?

Doors will open at 6:30pm, with the trivia contest beginning at 7:30pm.

What time will it end?

The event is scheduled to end at approximately 9:30pm.

What is the event format?

Each team will receive a packet of answer sheets, a pen, and a raffle ticket for each player upon arrival. The event will feature multiple rounds of full-room trivia with teams competing against one another, as well as multiple raffle drawings throughout the night for the chance to go onstage with Pat for one-on-one trivia. In order to determine the overall winners, we will invite the top two teams onstage for a game show style “showdown” grand finale!

Can I still get tickets?

Yes! We are expecting a packed house, however as of now there ARE still tickets available – you can purchase them by clicking here.

Do I need a team, or can I play solo?

TrivWorks trivia events are designed as a team trivia contest, so arriving with a group is advised. However, if you are planning to attend by yourself, we recommend joining an existing team upon arrival, rather than trying to go it alone. Rest assured, if you have any trouble at all finding a team to join, come find to me, and I will personally see to it that you are put with a fun group.

How many people can play on a team?

To make the event as fair as possible for all attendees, 8 people per team is the maximum number allowed.

Is there a minimum number of players allowed on a team?

Due to the large expected turnout, we are requesting that smaller teams combine into larger teams, to help streamline our scoring process; as such, we will be encouraging teams of 2 or 3 players to consider joining forces with another team or teams. Doing so will also boost your chances of winning!

Do we need a team name?

Yes – that’s one of the best parts! Not only will a creative and funny team name be required, but to help streamline our grading process, we will be collecting team names before the event begins. Please make sure to select a team name in advance of the event, as you will be asked to submit it immediately upon arrival!

Is cheating allowed?

No.

Is tweeting, photography etc. allowed?

Yes! We are a very social media-friendly bunch, and encourage you to tweet, Facebook, snap photos etc. using our official #NYCTrivia hashtag (just no flash photos, please).

What are the prizes?

As tonight’s event will be an all-NYC themed pop culture trivia contest, we have lined up some truly amazing “quintessential NYC experiences” as prizes such as off-Broadway shows, concerts, lectures, tours & more! These include:

  1. How to Be a New Yorker (including dinner at Sophia’s)
  2. The Awesome 80s Prom
  3. Emotional Creature
  4. Falling
  5. Jazz at Lincoln Center: James Cotton “Superharp” Band
  6. New York TV & Movie Sites Tour
  7. Brooklyn Pizza Tour
  8. 92Y Lecture: Tim Gunn
  9. Who Wants to be a Millionaire prize package

Will there be food?

Big time! Highline Ballroom has an incredible food menu! Arrive early, and hungry.

What’s the deal with seating?

Highline Ballroom shows are general admission, and groups will be seated at tables. Please note, in an effort to balance patron comfort with the tremendous demand for attendance, tonight’s event will be mixed seated/standing – please arrive early for best seating options!

How are answer sheets handed in/scored?

After each round of trivia is announced, “Pat’s Pages” will come around around to collect answer sheets; you can also come up and drop your sheet off at the scoring table, if you prefer. We will then score all of the teams while Pat conducts the onstage “mini-games” for raffle winners.

How long do I have to submit my answers?

To keep things fair, as well as to help the event move along smoothly, teams will have 30 seconds to submit answer sheets for scoring – after which they WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

What happens after the event is over?

Come grab a photo with Pat, then enjoy some more food/drink & socialize with your fellow NYC trivia lovers!
