Event Recap: “Why We Love NYC” Trivia Night at The Bell House, Hosted by Pat Kiernan

This past Wednesday, the TrivWorks team had the thrill of producing an incredible event: “Why We Love NYC,” an all-NYC themed pop culture trivia night at The Bell House in Gowanus, Brooklyn, hosted by our very own TrivWorks “Special Host” Pat Kiernan. The SOLD OUT event was a deviation from our core business of corporate entertainment and team building events, as well as the largest trivia night we have run at The Bell House yet, with an astounding 67 teams of New York City trivia lovers competing against each other – 300 attendees all, arguably the largest trivia contest New York City has seen since our June 2011 fund raiser for VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

Upon taking the stage to the appropriately-upbeat “Heart of Rock and Roll” by Huey Lewis and The News, Pat kicked things off with the first of several surprises. To warm up the crowd, he first screened the viral video phenomenon “Sh*t New Yorkers Say,” a recent YouTube hit written by and starring local comedian Eliot Glazer which features several prominent Pat Kiernan shout-outs:

To the audience’s delight, Pat then welcomed Eliot himself out on stage, conducting a brief interview before dropping the ultimate surprise: the world-premier screening of Pat’s video response, “Sh*t Pat Kiernan Says”:

Following these opening acts, Pat dived right into the contest, testing the crowd’s knowledge of such Gotham-centric topics as “Ruined NYC Movie Endings,” “Know thy NYC Neighborhoods,” “NYC Food, Culture & Nightlife” & a round of “Pat’s Picks,” the host’s top 10 favorite New York City pop culture trivia questions. In between rounds, while our staff of graders (aka: “Pat’s Pages”) tallied up the score sheets, Pat invited raffle winners to come up and play 1-on-1 trivia onstage, for the chance to win some of our “quintessential NYC experience” prizes. Themes for these “mini-games” included “NYC Song Lyrics,” “Getting Around Town,” “NYC on TV” and “NYC Celebrity Scandals.”

Throughout the event, attendees were encouraged to share their experience in real-time via Twitter, using our official #WeLoveNYC hashtag. Among the most enthusiastic “tweeters” in attendance was none other than NY1 television personality Roger Clark, who made a surprise appearance onstage with Pat as well.

Awesome!

As a grand finale, Pat invited the top two teams onstage to participate in a high-stakes “showdown” finale, with the winning team taking home tickets to see Godspell on Broadway as Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” boomed over the speakers.
