Pat Kiernan Trivia Night Raises Nearly $5K for Sandy Relief!
In an absolutely incredible event, we were so delighted to welcome 300 attendees to our special Hurricane Sandy trivia benefit at The Bell House hosted by Pat Kiernan, featuring an “Anything But Politics” pop culture theme, with 100% of ticket proceeds gong to benefit hurricane Sandy relief!
After kicking off the event with a great stand-up act by comedian Christian Finnegan, Pat took the stage to thunderous applause while Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” boomed over the speakers. Throughout he event, Pat tested the pop culture knowledge of nearly 70 teams in attendance with full-room rounds including “Movie Taglines,” “Non-Political Celebrity News,” a music round of hit songs performed by famous actors/actresses, and a round of “Pat’s Picks” questions worth two points each. Attendees also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets throughout the event, for the chance to go onstage with Pat and play 1-on-1 trivia “mini games” for the chance to spin the prize wheel and take home something amazing!
Throughout the event, Pat occasionally left the stage to roam the audience selling raffle tickets, as well as to hand out pounds of candy intended for our Sandy-cancelled Halloween trivia night. As special interludes, we were also thrilled to welcome back TrivWorks friend Eliot Glazer – creator of the legendary “Sh*t New Yorkers Say” video, as well as co-host of our “Golden Girls vs. Designing Women” trivia night earlier this year – and his comedic partner Jackie Mancini – for a fun comedy reading/trivia act, as well as auction off a print of an amazing photo taken after the hurricane by photographer Michael Cinquino, which went viral after he tweeted it, with proceeds going towards Sandy relief. New York Shirts for Sandy were on-hand to help raise funds, as were Daly Pies, who donated $1 for each slice purchased to Sandy relief. We were also delighted to have the Village Voice street team there to lend their support!
For the grand finale, Pat invited the top two teams onstage for a high-stakes trivia “showdown,” to determine the overall champions. The winning team got to take home tickets to see SILENCE! The Musical, as well as VIP tickets to attend/audition for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” – the runners up received vouchers to come back to another show at The Bell House.
In addition to our fantastic host venue The Bell House, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Pat for graciously donating his time and efforts, as well as Christian, Eliot, Jackie, Michael and all who attended and helped raise nearly $5K for Hurricane Sandy relief! We will be splitting the proceeds between two charities: The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, and Brooklyn Community Foundation Recovery Fund.
We of course also want to recognize our incredible prize partners, who generously donated to this event as well:
