“Why We Love NYC” Partner Spotlight: Wafels & Dinges

wafels.and.dinges.trivworksWe are less than 2 weeks away from our just-added “Why We Love NYC” trivia night at the Bell House hosted by Pat Kiernan on February 27th, which we announced after our January 25th event quickly sold out (only a handful of tickets left for the February event as well, by the way – click to purchase tickets if you would like to attend!)

As with our last event, not only will Pat be asking questions about the people, places, events and media which shape daily life in New York City, but as prizes we will be giving away “quintessential NYC experiences” including tickets to see Godspell on Broadway, Freud’s Last Session off-Broadway, A Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tour (voted the best tour of the borough), concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and lecture tickets at the world-renown 92nd Street Y.

There, will, however, be some new prizes and surprises in store as well. Among the great feedback we received from our last event, one eager Twitter fan wrote, “Will there be snacks at the next one?” I am happy to report that the answer is an emphatic “yes!”

I first discovered Wafels & Dinges (or the “Waffle Truck,” as it is more familiarly know) three years ago, when I would visit my then-girlfriend (now wife) out in Park Slope, Brooklyn for the weekends. Walking down 7th Avenue one Saturday, I saw a bright-yellow food truck parked next to a church, and thought, “Oh, great – yet ANOTHER of these new, fancy-schmancy rolling vendors. Why on earth would I eat something out of a TRUCK?”

But then I got closer – and I smelled it.

I smelled…waffles.

Oh. My. God.

Unless you’ve experienced the Waffle Truck yourself, you have no idea that such a perfect aroma exists. They smell like the most incredible waffles you can imagine, mixed with whiffs of chocolate, berries, whipped cream and other toppings they have available. Somebody walked past me eating a freshly-pressed waffle drenched in Nutella, and it looked so good I had to have one (despite having just eaten).

As a budding foodie, I’ve discovered that when it come to food texture, the best combination is hot and crispy on the outside, chewy in the middle: this is true of pizza, steak, hot dogs and, I discovered, waffles. This thing was PERFECT, every single bite! I was in heaven.

At our February 27th event, look for Wafels & Dinges strategically stationed outside the front doors of The Bell House, doing what they do best: churning out the most incredibly delicious creations ever to get pressed in a waffle iron. All attendees will be allowed to easily enter and exit the venue after check-in, so that you may enjoy the waffle awesomeness throughout the entire event in between rounds of trivia. Additionally, Wafels & Dinges will be giving away a special prize to one lucky trivia fan – one which you certainly don’t want to miss out on!
