What Qualifications Must a NYC Trivia Team Building Professional Have?

NYC Team Building Professional

This is a unique thing I do, using trivia for corporate team building in NYC and elsewhere, and as I’ve said before, there’s a great deal of mystery and confusion surrounding just what a trivia team building professional is – and isn’t.

As trivia grows in popularity in New York City and around the country, so do the number of companies offering trivia services. It’s become its own little niche area of the entertainment industry, and like any industry there are different trivia companies offering different services to different clients. Google “trivia team building” or similar, and you will likely find bar trivia companies and hosts who also do private events, as well as other professional team building companies that mainly produce scavenger hunts, cooking classes, ropes course trials etc., and have added trivia as one of their offerings.

And then there’s me. Somehow, I have the nerve to call myself a “trivia team building professional,” and have built a company and its reputation around that.

But is it true? Is there actually such a thing as a trivia team building expert – and if so, am I one?

The honest answer is: I don’t know. Nobody does, actually. The term “team building” is nebulous enough that anyone can claim to be an expert at it, and so long as they’re good at their chosen activity, nobody will think otherwise.

Well, I may or may not have what it takes to accurately call myself a “trivia team building professional” – however, here’s what I DO have:

  1. 500 trivia events under my belt, including planning & producing trivia team building activities for some of the most prestigious companies in NYC and the world
  1. Over 10 years’ experience in professional event planning and production – 6 of which as Director of Adult Education Programs at Manhattan’s 92nd Street Y, programming 500 lectures, classes and experiential learning events annually
  1. 7 years’ experience in corporate team building, including as an event producer at New York’s top scavenger hunt company
  1. 7 years’ experience as a highly-rated professional NYC trivia event producer and host
  1. Nearly 400 blog posts written to date, specifically on the subjects of teamwork, workplace issues, and using live trivia for corporate events
  1. A bachelor’s in psychology, a master’s in music & entertainment business, and a graduate certificate in professional organizational leadership

True, there is no Webster’s definition for what it is I do – however, I like to think that when somebody says “trivia team building professional,” a person of my unique background, experience and training comes to mind.
